Thaipusam is a Hindu festival, celebrated mostly by the Tamil community on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (Jan/Feb). But i'm talking about the night after, where people will be dancing and enjoying themselves on the streets.
Have you ever thrown a coconut?
I HAVE! Well, just this once......
It's quite thrilling. But you can't just throw one when you see one. You have to pile up the coconuts like a pyramid, light a few coconuts with fire (just a small flame). Once you've done that, START THROWING!
Caution: may cause swelling on feet or injuries if thrown randomly
It's a fun thing to do. You just smash the coconuts, as many as you can get. Don't worry about the mess. They hire people to clean up the shells.
But this night isn't just about coconuts, you can pay your respects to the Hindu Gods. It's a good thing to do. But it will be very crowded. You know the Indian population, i don't have to explain to you about the crowd.
I had a great time. Now i know it's fun to throw a coconut, even though it may be painful if it hits your feet. *ouch*
